Our School

Welcome to Christ Church Day School located in the beautiful town of Coronado, CA.

At CCDS, you will find happy, engaged students who are encouraged by teachers, parents, and administrators to develop their natural curiosity and strive to achieve their full potential. There is a strong sense of community on our campus, and you will see students from different grades working together on projects, sharing their time, and engaged in service learning and outreach opportunities.

We invite you to explore the pages of our website to discover what makes our school so unique and one that warmly embraces and supports our students and their families. We also invite you to contact us and set up a time to visit our campus and see our community in action. Once on campus, you will see how we have combined academic excellence, small class sizes, a caring and skilled staff who engage the students in reasoning and creativity, and impressive resources to help foster student growth.

For more than 60 years, we at CCDS have been guiding students to be academic and well-rounded young people with a solid foundation in both the classroom and in society. We look forward to meeting with you to share more about our wonderful school.

Our Mission

Christ Church Day School Engages Students to Reason, Create, Serve, and Lead in a Nurturing, Inclusive Episcopal Learning Community.

We believe that students should become life long learners.

Therefore, we:

  • encourage a natural curiosity;

  • teach basic skills, enabling the pursuit of independent learning;

  • and, promote an understanding of the relationship between the arts, science, and the humanities to stimulate learning.

We believe that students should acquire a strong foundation of Christian ethics.

Therefore, we:

  • honor diversity, both within and outside the community;

  • foster respect for thoughts and opinions of others;

  • encourage an awareness and concern for local and global communities;

  • and, provide an environment which promotes an awareness of God's love and forgiveness.

Celebrating More Than 65 Years of Excellence

In 1957, the school opened its doors to 41 pupils wearing gray jumpers or pants and navy blue sweaters. The teachers also wore this uniform, and tuition was $25 a month. Now, a proud member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools, CCDS has earned the highest 6-year accreditation term offered by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1997, 2003, 2010, 2016, and 2022.

Among the many changes over the years, the blue sweaters changed to red, but the heart of the school remains the same. Other changes have included the addition of 5th and 6th grades 28 years ago, specialty teachers for Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and Spiritual Nurture, and the addition of Junior Kindergarten in 2009. 7th grade was added in 2024 and 8th grade is planned for 2025. The first computers were added in 1982, and today, CCDS has computers in every classroom, ipads, and student laptops for 5th and 6th graders. In 2008, CCDS was among the first schools in California to adopt the Singapore Math curriculum.  A new Science Lab opened on January 1st of 2012, and the campus underwent extensive renovations during the summer of 2013.  CCDS continually looks to the future to ensure another 65 years of excellence.
