Week of March 9 Newsletter
Highlights from the Week
During our Heat and Energy Unit, the sixth graders have completed some experiments to observe how heat is transferred from one object to another. In the first experiment, we tested cups made with different materials and we observed how quickly cold water can absorb thermal energy and then did the same with hot water. After completing the lab, they found their conclusions and compared it to their hypothesis to see if they were right or not.
The next experiment the sixth graders participated in an Ice Cream Thermal Energy Lab. During this lab, they observed how thermal energy was transferred. After adding the materials, the students examined how matter interacted with the materials to create ice cream. It was a yummy lab!
This week, we also started our Nonfiction Unit in reading. The students chose a nonfiction book of their choosing and started reading about the topic. Within this unit, the students will be compiling information about the topic and create a chapter book about the information.
- The students just completed their post-assessment for the Narrative Unit. I gave them back both their pre-assessment and their post-assessment with comments from myself. Please check out the growth each student made in their writing as they all have improved immensely. There won’t be a final grade, but you can identify the growth from my comments and the difference in their writing. I am very proud of their hard work and enjoy watching them continue to grow as writers.
- Also, if you would like to view their presentations, they are put on their Google Drives. Please ask your child to share them with you.
- For the yearbook, there is a page for the sixth graders to show off themselves as babies! Could you please choose a cute baby photo of your child that shows their personalities really well and email them to me by Monday? If you don't have them on the computer, please bring them in with your child and I will scan them for you and make sure you will get them back. I am excited to see them all!!
