Week of December 6 Newsletter
Dear parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful week and are ready for the weekend. The sixth graders have been working hard all week and are getting excited for Christmas!
For the month of December, the school virtue is patience. In class, we have been doing a patience advent writing program. Each day the students watch a video that represents patience. Whether it is a story or kids ideas of what patience means to them, the class gets to see how patience is portrayed all around. After each video, the students will then reflect and write a story based on how that video meant to them. It is a great way to identify how patience is represented in their lives and how it relates to them.
For our December novel, we are reading the graphic novel of Moby Dick. The students dove into the graphic novel this week and learned all about the setting, characters, and the ferocious main character, Moby Dick. Before reading, they did some research together, created a poster about their findings, and presented it as a class. This gave them an insight into how it was during the 19th century in Nantucket as well as a chance to practice their public speaking.
Overview of next week:
Have a great weekend,
