Dear Parents,
It was wonderful to see you at Back to School Night! Thank you for coming so that I could share third-grade information with you. Please hold on to the Back to School Night packet as it contains information you may need to refer to later.
This week in math we begin Ch. 2 Addition and Subtraction. We will spend most of the week focusing on mental math strategies for adding and subtracting. We will also review rounding and number patterns. We are scheduled to test Number Patterns from Ch. 1 on Thursday.
As we build our reading life, we'll carry on with our work on goals and tracking progress. I began assessing the children to find their “just right” reading level. When these are completed, I will share the results with you so that you can help your child find those "just right" books at home.
This week in writing, we begin the work of choosing a small moment story to develop, our “seed idea,” and take it through the stages of the writing process to publishing our first story.
After the discussion of mindfulness on Thursday evening, Jessica Nancett made me aware of a fantastic show currently playing at the Fleet Science Center Planetarium. It is "Mesmerica 360 San Diego: A Visual Music Journey," with music by James Hood. It is playing on Fridays at 7:30 and 9:30 PM with the last showing on September 27th. I am able to attend the 7:30 PM showing on the 27th. Would you 3rd grade families be interested in attending this show together? Please let me know if you are interested. I understand shows have been sold out, so we should decide soon. Here is the link for times and ticket information. I think it would be wonderful!
Have a great week!
Anne
