Dear parents,
Day School Sunday is this upcoming weekend, Sunday, September 29th. The service begins at 10am, and students are asked to arrive by 9:55am. I will be outside of the church leading up to that time to direct students to the pews that have been set aside for us. The service is expected to conclude by 11am. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
I was so proud of the effort the kids put into the Johnny Appleseed play! I was amazed that a lot of the kids voluntarily memorized their lines! I didn't require it, but it was a nice surprise. I was also so proud that the kids stepped out of their "green comfort zone" and stood in the "yellow zone" for it. It was a big deal for some of the students. Thank you again for working with your child on the script; I think we can all agree through preparation the yellow zone doesn't feel so overwhelming. What a wonderful lesson to be learned! I'd also like to thank our Room Rep Nicole Ashmore, Karrie Gilby, Elizabeth Hahn, Mariana Gomez-Ibarra for helping make this performance extra special. They assisted with the applesauce making, centers, set up, and clean up. Thank you, thank you!
On Monday, September 30th is our field trip to the San Diego Zoo. Here are the particulars:
- School uniform with sneakers. Please apply sunscreen. Your child may wear a hat if they like, but he/she will be responsible for it.
- We will eat snack at CCDS before leaving. Depart 9:30am
- Pack a brown paper sack lunch for your child with a water bottle. NO LUNCHBOXES please.
- We will eat lunch at the zoo
- Do not send money for food, drinks, or souvenirs
- Arrive back at CCDS about 2:45pm
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me-Thank you.
On Friday, October 4th, the students will have a cumulative spelling test (Units 1-5) with all the words they have had thus far. It will be a more traditional spelling test where I give them a word, use it in a sentence, and then write the word down. Please go over any misspelled words this weekend and week in learning those high frequency words. If it's a homophone, don't forget to practice the different meanings.
Lastly, we finished up the science animal unit. The zoo field trip will be reinforcing concepts learned while providing fun and focus for your child. I will use the zoo scavenger hunt and a formal assessment on Thursday. We've already had one review last week in preparation for the field trip. We will go over the concepts one more time in the beginning of the week.
