Senior KIndergarten January Newsletter
I hope you had a wonderful time with your families making memories! I got to spend time with my goofy son Ben, who came all the way from Canada! I am excited to see my students; I have missed them! Time for you to do a happy dance!!
I January we will try to start a snail unit, depending on the weather- rain brings them out. If you can capture any medium to large snails to send in that would be great! We only need 12 to begin. I've heard that the Yacht Club is a good hunting ground! Snails make perfect kindergarten pets as they cannot run away lol!
Also ahead in science will be a study of force and motion. We will talk about the basic idea that all movement initially comes from a force. This will be a fun study using balls, dominoes, race cars, and tracks! Students will learn how to formulate questions and experiment to find the answers. Students will also be recording results and using their science journals to notate their results.
We will be continuing to develop our narrative writing skills with stories about the sudents' holidays. Talking to them about their adventures will certainly help them develop the details of their stories. Details are difficult, but details wag the dog!!
I will be introducing good nutrition this month with lots of talk about sugar and reading labels, so if your kids start hassling you about this then they have been listening... yay!!
Also on the horizon are deep conversations about MLK and what he stood for. I encourage you to talk to your children and go deeper than "we are all friends" I would like any feedback you want to share with me. This is a difficult topic, especially for the younger students.
Lastly, we will be learning about China and Asia this month. We will have a Lunar New Year Parade (TBD) that we hope you will be a part of! I will let you know when we schedule a date
Have a wonderful month!
