October 7, 2019
We've had a very busy week in 2nd grade and on campus! We kicked off the week with Day School Sunday. Thank you to the families that could make it to this special event. I know the parishionars really enjoyed seeing and hearing CCDS students participate and sing in Sunday's service. In addition to learning our core subjects, we went on a field trip to the San Diego Zoo. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Hahn, Mrs. Mariana Gomez-Ibarra, Mr. Bill Cody, and Mrs. Lata Pottturi for chaperoning and leading a group of students around the zoo! Students had a scavenger hunt where they had to find three animals in each group: mammals, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates. They had to identify the animals' characteristics (inside and outside) and write a fun fact for each animal. They drew pictures and wrote about what they learned. It was a fun and educational day! Lastly, we had the Blessing of the Pets. This is one of my favorite events of the year that never fails to put a smile on my face!
I cannot believe it is already October this week! We have a very busy month, so please be sure to check the “School Wide Events” box on the side of the CCDS webpage or Mrs. Funk's weekly emails to stay informed about all of our upcoming happenings.
Progress reports were sent home on Friday in your child’s Friday Folder. Please make sure to read your child’s progress report, sign it, and send it back to school on Monday. Thank you!
Today your child chose a seed idea to write about their narrative story. Bearing in mind, authors’ purpose and plot (the story had to have a problem and a solution). This weekend you may want to ask which seed idea was chosen and ask your child to retell it to you. The more times they verbally tell the story, and remind them of little details, the more entertaining the story will be to tell. When we are finished, we will have a Narrative Celebration with our 5th grade buddies.
