Dear Parents,
Ancestor Night Update...
This is the grand finale of our unit on "Family Ties" in Social Studies. "A Journey to Our Past" is a play the children will perform on Thursday, March 12th at 5:30-7:30 pm followed by multicultural desserts. Please bring your child to the classroom by 5:15 pm dressed in their school uniform.
I'd like to ask you a few more things in preparation for our big evening. Please be sure that someone will be portraying your child's ancestor. The costumes can be as simple or elaborate as you desire. You will not be required to say anything and you will simply come forward and sit in a giant picture frame while your child reads about you. I would also like to request that you prepare a dessert that will feed approximately 8-10 persons. This should be a treat that represents your ancestral heritage. It will be wonderful to have dishes from foreign lands. Ms. Nicole Ashmore has sent out a sign up sheet. The night of the performance, please drop off your dessert in the Hinde Hall kitchen.
Furthermore, in your child's Friday Folder is an artifact sheet. If you'd like to share photo(s), family memorabilia, or an old artifact fill out the sheet and send in the item. I will have a table set aside to display the items the night of the performance.
Lastly, help your child to practice reading their journal so they can feel comfortable and read it easily on Ancestor Night. Thank you so much for the hard work on the family trees, relative interviews, and artifacts!!
Action Item...
I need one or two parents to help with the 2nd grade garden box. Please contact me if you're willing to help.
On the horizon...
On Wednesday, March 11th is an all school Reading Day where most of the day will be devoted to reading books. Your child may bring books from home and wear their PJs or other comfy clothes to school. Click on the link and watch a video from the CCDS student council: Read in Day
Highlights...
This week was Dr. Seuss' birthday. After reading Green Eggs and Ham, one of my favorite Seuss books,
we made green eggs and ham.
I'm happy to report, all them liked it, Sam-I-am.
AND the children declared... they'd eat them with a mouse. They'd eat them in a house!
