Junior Kindergarten
Dear JK Families,
The fall season is when Monarch Butterflies lay their eggs on milkweed plants and their life cycle can be observed in our CCDS gardens. So this week the children will be learning about the life cycle of the butterfly. Not only will we be watching for this life cycle in our gardens, but we will also watch caterpillars grow and change in an in-class butterfly habitat. Soon your children will be singing a butterfly song and making Monarch Butterfly costumes, complete with wings and antennae. On Friday, October 18, the children will wear their butterfly costumes and sing this song for you in front of the JK classroom just before dismissal, at 2:40 p.m. Be sure to put this date on your calendar!
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis, CCDS will have a Blessing of the Pets service on Thursday, October 3, and each class will gather in the courtyard of the school at 8 a.m. (children are to meet in the classroom first). Parents are invited to bring a pet to school for the service. If a pet is unable to come, students are encouraged to participate by bringing a stuffed animal or a picture of their pet (drawn or printed and even imaginary!). The general service begins with a few prayers of thanksgiving. After we pray together, there will be people who will pray over every pet on campus. Teachers will give each student a certificate of pet blessing. Pets must leave the CCDS campus immediately after the pet blessing service to allow for a normal instructional day.
