Dear JK Families,
Our classroom is beginning to feature your children’s autumn creations as they learn about fall. We collected autumn leaves during a nature walk and noticed the changes in the Liquid Amber trees down the street. You may have heard your child singing “The Leaves Are Falling Down.” If not, ask him or her to sing it for you!
This week, the children will explore the season of fall with their 5 senses. They have already seen the red, yellow, orange and brown colors of the leaves. They heard the “crunch” of dry and brittle leaves. They also felt the texture of a pumpkin and used words to describe it (e.g. bumpy, smooth, rough). This week, we will cut open a pumpkin for a whole different sensory experience!
This past month we have explored a variety of mathematical concepts in JK. We have created patterns with shapes and unifix cubes, counted by 1’s and 10’s, and graphed the answers to many different questions. We also looked for lines, patterns and shapes in the classroom and during our nature walks. This week’s homework will be all about patterns. I know the children will have fun sharing with the class the patterns they create at home!
Next Sunday, September 29, is Day School Sunday at 10 a.m. in the church. Students are asked to arrive wearing their uniforms (long pants for the boys and jumpers for the girls) and to sit as a group in the front pews with the teachers and staff. The classrooms will be open following the service and you are welcome to look around the school. Please join us!
