Junior Kindergarten
Dear JK Families,
Your children loved meeting their Fifth Grade Buddies last week! Their buddies read books to them and built structures with them using some of the JK toys (gears, blocks, Lincoln Logs, Wedgits, Magnatiles).
On Monday, the school will celebrate International Dot Day which was inspired by the book, “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds. In the story, a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence, courage and creativity. To celebrate this day, the CCDS classes will make dot crafts. Check out our dot crafts in the JK window when you pick your child up from school on Monday!
Autumn is almost here and our classroom will soon be featuring your children’s fall-themed artwork. We will look for autumn leaves during a nature walk and notice the changes in the Liquid Amber trees about a block from our school. We will also add a new song, “The Leaves Are Falling Down,” to our I Can Read Anthology notebooks.
The book “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes has been a favorite in our classroom. We have used it as a springboard for various discussions, including how friends should or shouldn’t treat each other and for talking about how many letters there are in each of our names. This week, the children will be bringing home “name” homework. It is an opportunity for you to talk with your child about his/her name and why it was chosen. Also, be sure to have your child complete the attached handwriting sheets. Thank you!
