Dear JK Parents,
It was a great week in Junior Kindergarten! Along with finding ways to fill each other’s “buckets,” the children have been learning about what it means to be a good friend. We read the book “The Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister and discussed the importance of being loving and kind, both with our words and with our actions, just as Rainbow Fish learned to do in the story. These same values will also be reinforced during Spiritual Nurture and in Chapel throughout the year.
Your children clearly love exploring new activities and learning new things. This week they will experience their first Spanish and music classes, rest time, and centers. The week after that, your child will be bringing home homework which can be done at anytime during the week. The homework in JK reinforces, in an enriching and engaging way, what we are learning in class.
This week, as you know, we begin full days. This means that the children should include the following items in their backpacks on Tuesday:
a lunch and a snack each labeled with name and in separate containers
a regular size beach towel (not extra large, please) and a small stuffed animal for rest time (both should be small enough to easily fit into a cubby)
Every week, we will dismiss at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday. This is 5 minutes before the rest of the school which helps to ease traffic congestion.
Back to School Night will be held this Thursday, September 5. This event is for adults only and is an opportunity for you to become more familiar with the JK classroom and curriculum. The Back to School Night Schedule is as follows:
5-5:45 p.m.: 3, 4, 5, 6 grade parents in the classrooms
5:55-6:25: All School meeting in Hinde Hall (all parents attend this meeting)
6:35-7:20 pm. JK, SK, 1, 2 grade parents in the classrooms
I look forward to seeing you there!
Many blessings to you all,
Mrs. Mary LeDuc
