Junior Kindergarten
Dear JK Families,
Last week, the children learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his message of peace, love and kindness to all people. We read the book, “Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Doreen Rappaport. We then talked about how we are all created by God, that each of us is special, and that we should treat each other with kindness.
We have various ways of carrying out this message of kindness in Jr. Kindergarten. On Friday, the JK children and their 5th grade buddies met to make “kindness cards” for others. Every day, we are on the look-out for examples of sharing and thoughtfulness that can be recorded in our Kindness Journal. The children love to hear their names mentioned when I read the entries during Circle Time. Also, be sure to ask your child to tell you about our class Compliment Circle which is definitely a favorite activity in our classroom!
This week, the children will learn about classifying animals that have fur, feathers or scales. Our Letter of the Week will be B for bears, birds, and boa constrictors (examples of animals in each of these categories). We will even have animals with fur, feathers and scales visiting our class! I encourage you to send in any animal pictures you have (e.g. from magazines, printed from websites or drawn by your child) that we can put into our Fur, Feathers and Scales boxes to share during Circle Time.
