Dear JK Families,
We had a great first week of school and Mrs. K and I are enjoying getting to know your children!
The children are learning all about routines, signals and procedures in Junior Kindergarten. Ask your child about “Quiet Coyote,” the freeze bell, earning beans in the jar and stars on the chart. You could also ask about walking in a line and singing “The Ants Go Marching,” using the bar graph with picture magnets, or learning to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Maybe they would like to tell you about what it was like taking a tour of the school or having PE with Mrs. Prince.
Choice Time is a real favorite each day. Activities offered during Choice Time this past week included playing with blocks, trains, Legos, the market, playdough, reading books at the listening center, and painting on the easel.
This week, we will be having lunch at school and we will dismiss at 12:25. Be sure to send a lunch and a snack (each labeled with name) in two separate containers as the children will put them in separate tubs. Also, if your child brings home a folder in his/her backpack, please check it for paperwork, drawings, etc. and then make sure that the folder is returned the next day. Thank you!
This week we will also practice going to Chapel and will attend our first Chapel on Thursday. On that day, we will be lining up outside the JK classroom at 7:55 a.m. Please make every effort to be on time, but if you are delayed, you may leave your child’s backpack in front of the classroom and bring him or her over to the church. We sit in the front pews on the right side. Sweaters are not required for Chapel until the weather cools (by October) but shirts are required to be tucked into shorts or pants. You are also welcome to attend Chapel along with us. Parents and other family members sit in the back of the church.
Please note these upcoming dates:
- Thursday, August 29: Chapel, line up at 7:55 a.m.
- Monday, September 2: Labor Day – no school
- Tuesday, September 3: full days begin for JK students (2:50 p.m. dismissal and Wednesdays at 2:10 p.m.)
- Thursday, September 5: Back to School Night
Have a wonderful week!
