February 3rd Newsletter
Dear Parents,
TO DO
- Send a packed lunch to school with your child on Tuesday when we head to the Water Conservation Garden! We will have snack in the classroom before heading off campus around 9am. We'll enjoy our lunch at the garden before returning to school around 1pm.
- Thanks for signing up for Student-led Conferences. I look forward to seeing you at your scheduled time this Thursday. This is a special night; the kids are always so excited to share the classroom with you and show you all they've been up to in class. You can check your sign-up time here.
- Heads up: on Valentine's Day, we will have an optional Valentine's Day Exchange in class. If your child would like to participate, please have him/her bring in a valentine for each student in the class. We'll be creating Valentine bags together and exchanging in class the day of.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
Spaghetti Dinner and Bake Sale
Students had fun being servers at the Spaghetti Dinner Monday evening. Thank you for contributing goodies for our bake sale. It was a very successful evening - they raised $576!
I received the following messages from DigDeep, the organization responsible for the Navajo Water Project, recognizing the students and their contributions.
The Compliments Project
Last week we kicked off what I call "The Compliments Project". Over the next several weeks, students will see and feel that giving compliments can feel just as good as receiving them. One student is chosen to be in the "hot seat" each week. The rest of the class generates compliments that focus on the student's character. Last week Victoria was in the "hot seat."
Geography Bee
Congratulations to Amaan, Graham, Finbarr, Victoria, and Griffin who qualified for the school GeoBee on Monday. Great performance and sportsmanship was on display when they competed in the school round on Thursday. Graham has advanced to the next stage in the competition...wish him luck as he takes a test to qualify for the State GeoBee.
Kindness Messages
We enjoyed The Great Kindness Challenge. We watched a kindness video each day and shined a bright light on the power of kindness throughout the week. Here are some pictures of the kids sharing kindness messages to make pedestrians smile.
OVERVIEW OF THIS WEEK'S CLASS TOPICS
I postponed our Geography test originally scheduled for last Friday. We'll have our final geography test this Wednesday instead.
Respectfully,
Celeste Caso
