February 24th Newsletter
I hope you and your child enjoyed the winter break! This Monday begins the 3rd and final trimester of the school year. 2nd trimester report cards will go home with students on Friday, March 20th.
Thank you to all who reached out and offered to help during the Mystery Skypathan Sleepover. With Harry, Aidan, and Suzanne locked in to stay the night with us on April 7th and several volunteers to help with breakfast in the morning on the 8th, we’re able to move forward with the event. I’ve been able to schedule a couple Skype connections, and I’m currently working to fill more spots. I will be sending an email out to those who offered to help with breakfast so you can coordinate. Thanks again for helping to make this happen! I’m planning to tell the students this Thursday. Please don’t spill the beans 😉.
- Please provide your child with a friendly reminder that we will be spending a good portion of our afternoon on our narrative display boards tomorrow. If there are any additional supplies your child would like to bring in for the design of the board, they must bring them to school tomorrow.
- Thursday's Chapel will be held on Wednesday this week. Students should come to school in Tues/Thurs uniform this Wednesday when we celebrate Ash Wednesday.
- 5th and 6th grade students are presenting their narratives on Friday in Hinde Hall and we’re hoping you’ll join as part of our audience. We are splitting students into two groups to limit sit time, one performance group will present 8:15-9am and the second group will go from 1- 1:45pm. I think they will actually be shorter than this but just being safe until I have a better idea during our practices at the start of the week. We will have display boards up, museum style, celebrating writing techniques used, and we’ll be reading our narratives aloud. We’re practicing reading with expression to bring our stories alive so we hope to keep you entertained and engaged! There will also be a little time for you to walk around and browse our displays at the end. We will be preparing displays in class and practicing presentation skills throughout the week. We invite you to join on on Friday! The first group, starting at 8:15am group will be Luke, Neve, Graham and Griffin. The second group, starting at 1pm, will be Ty, Amaan, Victoria, and Mary. We hope you can be a part of our audience!
- Gala tickets are on sale! You can click here to purchase your ticket. Hope to see you there.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
Visit from the Water Conservation District of San Diego
On Tuesday we had a special visit from the Water Conservation District of San Diego. Their informative presentation introduced students to the connection between land, water, and human actions, as well as common storm water pollutants in San Diego. After adding different types of pollutants to a watershed model and seeing how these pollutants affect the environment, we also learned simple actions we all can take to keep our creeks, rivers, bays, and ocean clean. Students were especially amazed by the rain storm demonstration. You can click here to see it for yourself.
The Compliments Project
Mystery Skype to Norman, Oklahoma
We impressed the other class by using atlas maps and roads to narrow the other class's location down to their specific town after quickly locating their state. The class was complimented on their wise question asking and sound use of geography.
The biography presentations were great! I recorded each presentation, and students will be watching their performance back this week to evaluate their performance and set goals for future presentations.
The real meaning of Valentine's Day can get lost in candies and cute cards. In addition to exchanging our goodies, we also shared our affection for one another by creating compliments bags for each other. These kind words brought about some big smiles!
