February 10, 2020
We have a fun week ahead of us! Next week on Friday, February 14th, we have our field trip to the USS Midway; the kids and I are very excited! The program is designed to give 2nd graders an understanding of the qualities of heroism, in particular as it relates to the heroic actions of those who served aboard the USS Midway when she was an active ship in the United States Navy. During our visit, the kids will learn about the unknown but courageous and dedicated individuals who performed their duties to their country. Students will think about heroes they know, people in their lives or in their experiences who demonstrate heroism in some way. All of these heroes, from the famous to the not so famous, are “people who make a difference.” It should be an amazing field trip! Thank you to Karrie Gilby, Casey Ashmore, Sarah Walsh, and Mariana Gomez-Ibarra for volunteering to chaperone and drive!! We couldn't do this without their support.
We will eat lunch on the USS Midway. Please pack a sack lunch for your child that day with a bottle of water. We will have snacks at school right before we leave. Students are to wear their school uniform.
On the Horizon...
After we return to school, we will exchange Valentines in class.
On Wednesday, the kids will make a decorated “Friendship” bag to put Valentine cards they receive during the exchange. The kids will pass each others' bags around and write one positive adjective to describe that person. This activity really warms my heart and will do the same for each child as they read the inside and outside of their bag. If your child participates in the card exchange, which is optional, please make sure there is a Valentine for every child in class. Thank you!
On a side note, it would be greatly appreciated if you could check your child's sweaters at home to make sure they belong to your child. There are a lot of missing sweaters and your child could have accidently taken one home that didn't belong to him/her. Lastly, it would be a great time to label your child's sweater if it's not monogrammed on the front.
On Tuesday, we celebrated being 100 days smarter in 2nd grade!
Our day was filled with fun 100th day activities.
Multiplication Challenge Celebration
I was very proud of the effort given by each student!
On the world map, your child's name was added and connected to where their ancestors come from.
