A Christmas-time tradition we have in 3rd grade is our gingerbread house making project with our 2nd-grade friends. This messy, fun project is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19th from 1 - 2 PM in Hinde Hall. Parent volunteers are welcome and invited to help with set up, assist students in building, and clean up. Each child will be asked to donate a couple of items to share with the rest of the class. Information about items needed and parent sign-up can be found in the Friday Folder.
We look forward to our class party on Friday, December 20th. I have a breakfast, movie, and gift exchange planned. If you had signed up at Back to School Night to help prepare or bring in food or supplies, Nicole Rizzie will get in touch with you. Thank you in advance for your help with this!
For the gift exchange during our Christmas party, I’m asking the students to bring a wrapped gift that a boy and girl would enjoy. Please limit the gift to $10.00. Gifts are due in the classroom by Wednesday, December 18th. We have a fun game planned!
Looking ahead to January, we are scheduled for not one, but two field trips! The first is to Birch Aquarium with the fifth grade on Tuesday, January 7th. We will be learning about kelp forests, its importance to marine animals, and how changes in the environment affect this ecosystem. We will be leaving school at 8:00am and return about 12:00pm. We are limited to the number of driver/chaperones per class, so I will need to choose drivers who have enough available seats in their car for our students, and whose forms are in first. The office will need current copies of both driver’s license and insurance. The cost for this trip is $15. The school will not be invoicing field trips any longer, so please send in cash or a check for this amount by Friday, December 13th. Students are to wear their uniforms for this trip.
Our second field trip will be on Monday, January 13th, and we will be heading to Mission Trails Regional Park. On this trip we will be learning about how the Kumeyaay people lived in this area long ago. This is a free dress trip, and hiking trails is part of this experience, so sneakers/trail shoes and dressing in layers are advised. We will leave school at 8:45am and return to school after a picnic lunch at the park, about 12:30 pm. There is no cost for this field trip. More to come on this trip when we return in January.
Permission slips will be sent home on Monday for both trips. Please return forms and payment by this Friday, December 13th. Thank you!
Christmas Concert reminder: students are to meet me in the classroom at 5:45pm wearing their dress uniform. After the concert, we will be waiting near the kiosk for pick up.
I think this is it. Stay warm and dry!
