CCDS School News
Hello, CCDS Families!
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving break. The kids returned happy and rested- thank you! We also appreciate all the precautions families took when traveling and the time at home to quarantine as needed. Our campus is a safer place due to your help and adherence to our procedures.
Yesterday, I was quite dismayed by the governor's information about our state. My prayers are with those who are ill, those who care for them, those who will need to close their businesses, and all who are fatigued. I am so thankful for my family- both the Funkbunch and our school family. Thank you all for what you are doing to keep our students, staff, and families safe during this time. We have demonstrated that the procedures in place at school are keeping our students and staff well, and I am so thankful for that. Please know a healthy environment is very important to us.
The governor's guidance was a bit confusing yesterday, but I received information from the SD County of Education Superintendent that stated-
- Schools that reopened while their county was in a less restrictive tier are able to continue to provide instruction to students on school sites.
With this, we will remain in-person. The waiver process has not been open since August 25, and it is still not accepting or processing waivers. Our waiver was submitted, and I will follow up when/if they reopen the process.
Christmas Caroling with our CCDS Family!
Many things have changed in the world, but we can all still sing in our homes! To that end, I would like to have you join me for an hour of Christmas Caroling! On Thursday evening at 6pm, we will gather on Zoom and sing some of our favorite holiday songs. I would love to see families in their festive attire and showcase some holiday decorations. I will send home a songbook with the lyrics and will have music playing to guide us. If your family would like to lead a song- please let me know and I will pencil you in! I'll send the Zoom link again later in the week, and I hope to see you that night! A flyer went home today, and I will attach it with this e-mail.
Closing Chapel and Schedule for Dec 18
As we endeavor to uphold traditions and celebrations as best we can, we are working on a way to have Closing Chapel, with a Nativity poem presented by our Senior Kindergarten, for each session on Dec 18. Teachers are also looking at ways to have a gift exchange or a special holiday time in the classroom. In addition, we usually finish by noon so everyone can get started on their break.
To that end, we will change the schedule for Dec 18.
Morning group will arrive at their usual times between 7:30-8am but will dismiss as follows.
5th and 6th- dismissal at 9:15am
3rd and 4th- dismissal at 9:25pm
1st and 2nd- dismissal at 9:35am
JK and SK- dismissal at 9:45am
Afternoon group will arrive and depart as follows
5th grade- arrival at 10am and dismissal at 11:45am
3rd and 4th- arrival at 10:10am and dismissal at 11:55am
1st and 2nd - arrival at 10:20am and dismissal at 12:05pm
JK and SK - arrival at 10:30am an dismissal at 12:15pm
While we love when families join us for Chapel, we will only have the students and staff at this service. We want this to be a safe event, and social distancing will be in place. Thank you for understanding this decision.
Opportunities for giving this season
Christ Church's Advent Angel gifts for children in the ECS South Bay Head Start Program. You may donate through this link or bring in an unwrapped present for a 3 to 5 year old to the school and we will get it to the church. The deadline is Dec 9.
Empty Egg Cartons Needed! A food pantry in San Diego gives out 150 dozen eggs a week to our neighbors in need. They buy the eggs in bulk and are in desperate need of empty egg cartons so they can sort the eggs for distribution. Bring your empty cartons of any size and made of any type of material—cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic—to the school and we will get it to the Christ Church Service Ministry Team. Thanks!
