Service Learning is a growing program at Christ Church Day School. Classes have done community service projects in the past, but now we are shifting the focus to develop our program into one of service learning. With service learning, connections are being made between what is being taught in the classroom to learning from our outreach projects.
Our students' work gives them the opportunity to learn about the problems in our local and extended communities and to help be part of the solution. Through their "service" they are "learning" to live another facet of our mission statement. The goal is that our students develop an appreciation of the blessings God has bestowed upon them, understand their responsibility to see the needs of others, and acquire skills that will help them continue to help others after they leave Christ Church Day School.
Each grade participates in several projects with a common theme. Parents are encouraged to act as Service Learning volunteers for their child's class.
