Mrs. Payton Hobbs: Head of School

Mrs. Hobbs joins us from La Jolla Country Day School where she most recently served as Head of Lower School. Her leadership skills are well demonstrated as she has 20+ years of experience in the field of education as a classroom teacher, school administrator, admissions director, athletic coach, academic research and design consultant, curriculum director, and leadership development coach. Mrs. Hobbs earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Duke University and a Master’s of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina Central University. She also played Division I basketball for Duke University in addition to professional basketball in Europe. Mrs. Hobbs has proven to be a visionary innovator with a deep appreciation for empathy and inclusivity. Her love of education is authentic, heartfelt and spiritually based.

Mrs. Lindsay Bruner: Junior Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Bruner is a talented educator with over 20 years of experience. She has served as a reading coordinator, elementary lead educator (grades K-4), and preschool educator. She has earned many awards during her career that include Most Innovative Teacher of the Year for 119th Magazine, Teacher of the Year for Hickman Mills School, Thomas Edison Award from Smithsonian Institute, and Master Teacher from Barstow School. Mrs. Bruner joins us after working this past year at Del Mar Heights as an instructional aide and site substitute. Mrs. Bruner has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Masters of Art degree in Education. She holds a Birth-Grade 6 teaching license from the state of Missouri and a Multiple Subject teaching license from the state of California. Mrs. Bruner excels in cultivating and maintaining positive and productive relationships with all community members and is an exceptional instructional leader grounded in current best practices.

Mr. David Johnson: Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Johnson joins us from Army Navy Academy in Carlsbad where he has served as the Assistant Director of Recreation since 2015. During his time at Army Navy, Mr. Johnson oversaw the development and maintenance of the recreation activity curriculum and organized and operated summer camps. Prior to his time at Army Navy, Mr. Johnson served as the Director of Sports and Family Programming for the Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA. Mr. Johnson was responsible for operating the PeeWee and Youth Sports Department, Dance, Gymnastics, Martial Arts Department and Adventure Guides program. He also instructed athletic classes for children aged 3-10. He has an extensive volleyball coaching background that includes coaching at the club and collegiate level. Mr. Johnson has a Master of Arts degree in Health, Exercise and Sports Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Exercise Science (Sports Psychology).
