Feb. 8, 2021 Celebrating Black History Month at CCDS!

Celebrating Black History Month At Christ Church Day School
February is designated as Black History Month, and the students at Christ Church Day School are spending the month in a program that shares biographies of famous Black Americans. Mondays will highlight artists and Wednesdays will focus on musicians. Dancers, sports figures, and scientists will also be featured.
This past week the students learned about artist Alma Thomas who is known for her colorful, abstract paintings. Following a lesson about her art, students were encouraged to try their hand at creating their own abstract artwork. This beautiful display graced the campus all week. Other biographies this week included Misty Copeland, a famous ballerina, and Tom Wiggins, a pianist.
Celebrating inclusion, respect, and diversity have been a point of concentration for CCDS, and this program reinforces these attributes.
