I am very excited to be teaching physical education this year! We will continue using the SPARK program (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids), which is taught nationally. Over the summer I ordered additional equipment that I’m sure the kids will enjoy using. PE will continue to be taught on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so be sure your child wears tennis shoes those days. PE class is 30 minutes long.
The SPARK program has different lessons for K – 2nd and 3rd – 6th. Each PE class begins with a 5-10 minute warm-up activity, which then leads to the main activity for the remaining time. In September our K – 2nd grade students will be working on “Perceptual Power”, which is using a variety of activities to develop locomotor skills, rates of movement, and directionality. The upper grades will be doing cooperative games using a parachute and Frisbees. New activities will be introduced each month.
We are ready to play! |
