	May 14, 2012 Dear Parents, Thank you so much for all the cards, gifts and goodies you bestowed on me during "Teacher Appreciation Week." I'm not sure I deserve all that attention, but it is very much appreciated! I should thank each and every one of you for sending me such wonderful children to work with each day. There are not too many professions that give a person a chance to influence young lives and I am very grateful for that privilege that I have every day when I am teaching your children. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wanted to remind you that we will be visiting the Coronado Animal Shelter on Friday, May 25th at 1:15. I will be sending home a permission slip for this little mini field trip. Mrs. Janice Szumowski, our liaison for PAWS has arranged it and will be driving us down to the 1st Street facility.  If you could also drive and tour with us, we could use 3 more drivers.  It will only be a short visit and we should be back before school is out on Friday. This week we will conclude our study of fractions with lessons about “fractions of a set” of objects (1/2 of 12 cars, etc.).  We will also have a Cumulative Math Test on Friday, over everything we’ve covered so far this year.  In social studies we will continue our study of places by talking about regions and natural resources. We will read a story in our reader called “The Coatis of the Sonoran Desert” and have a weekly test over this story on Friday. I hope all the moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day and that you enjoyed the present that your child made especially for you. Thanks for all you do all the time! Judy Andrews UPCOMING EVENTS   Thurs.
