....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

Halloween – and don’t the children love Halloween!
Because Halloween falls on Sunday this year, we are going
to shift gears a bit and combine our Harvest Festival Family
Social with the school Halloween celebration from
5:30 - 7:30 this Friday the 29th
. The 6th grade parents,
led by Kathy Kennelly and our own CCDS party mom, Colleen Moser, have
organized an evening of fun for all ages. By now you have
seen the flyers and information in the Informer, so please
get those RSVPs and checks in to help the 5th grade parents
know how much food to order and the quantity of game
supplies to purchase.

The following Friday, November 5th, marks the date of the Golf Tournament.
This is another fun, fun evening, but one with a very important purpose. If you
have not already done so, get those golf and/or dinner reservations handed in
right away.

To make the week even more interesting on Monday, November 1st, through
Wednesday November 3rd, CCDS will be on a half-day schedule dismissing at
12:00. The afternoon time will be used for Parent Teacher Conferences. Report
cards will handed out during the conference. Conference time is a great time for
sharing information from home that might have an impact on your child’s time
at school. So bring your thoughts and questions to the conference, I always found
conferences an enjoyable time for parents and teachers to share information and
discover the best ways to help our CCDS students achieve to their full potential.
It is also important to remember that we are not only discussing what students
are learning, but also how they are interacting with one another. The consistent
message must always be to do your best, and to do it in a kind and loving manner
towards those around you.

Happy Halloween!!

.

Don't wait to signup to donate at the San Diego Bloodmobile which will visit
Christ Church this coming Sunday, Halloween! There are still appointments
available - you can signup on-line to make your appointment. We collected 25
"usable" pints at our Valentine's Day drive - our annual goal is 52. So we're
almost halfway there! Please help if you can.

This year the Sparks Program is being fully implemented for the PE curriculum
kindergarten through 6th grade. This program was developed at San Diego State
and is used throughout San Diego Schools including Coronado Village School.
The program has three important parts. Two of those parts are related to the
structure of each lesson. The lessons begin with warm up activities and then
move into the second phase of playing a game that teaches skills,
good sportsmanship and teamwork. The third part of the program is called
My Personnel Best. About once every six to eight weeks, each student runs
through a series of skills such as pull-ups, sit ups etc. The goal is to beat their
own last assessment, not their neighbor’s scores. The program is designed to
build each child’s strength and fitness. (Of course they can always practice at
home too.) Mrs. Duryea has gone through the Sparks training, and she spent
the first three PE periods introducing the program to the students.
Mrs. Duryea is starting her thirteenth year at CCDS. With her experience,
training, and enthusiasm this should be a great year for PE and the kids!

........ VIRTUE FOR OCTOBER IS FAITH

Spiritual Nurture

The theme for this week is faith in God when times are tough; Faith in God
to take care of those we love, even when they die.
“Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”
John 11:40.

Give us grace, O God, so to follow your blessed saints in virtuous an godly
living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for
those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
