....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

Picture day is this Tuesday. Please make sure all forms
and checks are turned into the office by tomorrow.

This Sunday, October 10th at 5:00 the school will
gather together for the once a year Evensong service
for the Day School students and their families. I personally
request that all families attend to show our appreciation
to the church for their outreach support to CCDS and to
share in celebrating the underlying Christian values
fundamental to CCDS.
The service will last about 30 minutes.
Students are to wear their dress uniforms. Each class will enter the church behind
their class banners. The children will offer a vocal performance during the middle of
the service. I think the following prayer sums up the spirit of the service. It is one of
my favorite prayers.

O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen, and the evening
comes and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work
is done. Then in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest and peace
at the last. Amen

Shifting gears a bit as I move on to the next subject, all boys in grades 3rd – 6th
should be wearing black belts with their uniforms. In second grade, belts are
optional and we recognize the difficulties of dealing with belts for the JK, K and 1st
graders and therefore do not require them in those grades. Thank you for your help
with this.

This week I look forward to meeting with the 3rd grade parents Friday’s coffee.

This year the Sparks Program is being fully implemented for the PE curriculum
kindergarten through 6th grade. This program was developed at San Diego State
and is used throughout San Diego Schools including Coronado Village School.
The program has three important parts. Two of those parts are related to the
structure of each lesson. The lessons begin with warm up activities and then
move into the second phase of playing a game that teaches skills,
good sportsmanship and teamwork. The third part of the program is called
My Personnel Best. About once every six to eight weeks, each student runs
through a series of skills such as pull-ups, sit ups etc. The goal is to beat their
own last assessment, not their neighbor’s scores. The program is designed to
build each child’s strength and fitness. (Of course they can always practice at
home too.) Mrs. Duryea has gone through the Sparks training, and she spent
the first three PE periods introducing the program to the students.
Mrs. Duryea is starting her thirteenth year at CCDS. With her experience,
training, and enthusiasm this should be a great year for PE and the kids!
