	Smiling faces, excited teachers and students, and greeting new and returning families last week were all wonderful outward signs of the positive energy felt on campus as school began. Each fall awakening to the possibilities a new school year offers brings its own special sense of joy to all of us. The big news for this week is Back to School Night this Thursday. I cannot emphasize enough how important this evening is for your family. It is an adult only event where teachers share their programs and expectations for the year with you. Armed with this knowledge, you will be able to support your child’s progress throughout the year. I sent the scheduled times for each class out on Friday, but they are listed again in this Informer. The first CCDS Parent Association’s room rep meeting will take place in Hinde Hall on Wednesday morning the 8th of September at 8:00. I encourage you to attend – the more the merrier. We will be planning the events for the school year and assigning which grade levels are responsible for each event. I hope you can join us. Even if you can’t be a full time room representative, you will be in the know about the major school events this year. Thank you for continuing to following the drop of and pick up procedures.. It truly helps to keep our children safe.

	BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT SCHEDULE  6:00 - 7:00 pm Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will meet with the classroom teachers in their respective classrooms 7:00 - 7:30 pm General session will be held for all parents in Hinde Hall 7:30 - 8:30 pm 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades will meet with the classroom teachers in their respective classrooms.   STARTING THE YEAR OFF RIGHT TIPS ARRIVAL TIME:  - Students should arrive no earlier than 7:45 and no later than 7:55. Please remember that your child’s teacher is starting the day for all 16 children. So drop off your child and do not linger to talk to the teacher. Classes begin at 7:55 sharp. DISMISSAL TIME:  -Students are dismissed at 2:55 and should be picked up no later than 3:05.  If you need to meet with your child’s teacher, please schedule a conference at 3:05 ahead of time. -Pick-up time on Wednesdays is at 2:30. Please be on time so that the teachers may start their staff development meetings immediately after dismissal. In the interest of fairness to those enrolled in After School Care, all children not enrolled in one of the After School Care Programs will be sent to After School Care and charged $10 for every 15 minutes parents are late. Parents are considered late if their child is not picked up by 10 minutes after dismissal time. PICK-UP AND DROP OFF PROCEDURES These are always busy times, but by following the rules, you can help us keep all of our students safe and the procedures as efficient as possible. Thank you in advance for your attention to the following rules. PLEASE DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR IF YOU USE THE LOADING ZONE IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL, EVEN FOR JUST A MOMENT. -If you are in the loading zone, your child will be brought to your car in the afternoon and a 6th grade ambassador will help your child/children get out of the car in the mornings. - The parking lot across the street is open if you want to help your child in and out of your car in the morning. Please pass these instructions on to anyone dropping off orpicking up your child. - The PE lot will be open for overflow parking in the afternoons from 2:55 to 3:05 or 2:30 – 2:40. - Please join the end of the line for the loading zone. Sometimes it wraps around the corner, but we will move it forward as quickly as possible. Remember no cutting. -Double parking is not allowed and children will not be released to cars that are double-parked. - Children riding bikes will be dismissed from the gate closest to the church. CROSS WALKS -If you are picking up your child and walking or taking them to your car in the parking lot, keep a clear view of the cross walks for approaching cars by waiting to the 10th Street side of the gate. LUNCHES - The students should bring their lunches to school in the mornings. If it is necessary for you to deliver a lunch later in the day, please take it to the office. It will be delivered to your child’s classroom. SIGNING OUT CHILDREN DURING THE DAY - If you need to pick up your child during the day, send a note to the teacher in the morning. Then they can have you’re your child ready to go with homework etc, ahead of time. -When you pick up your child, go to the school office and sign out the student before you pick her/him up from the classroom. SCHOOL TIME MEDICATIONS Please remember it is imperative that all medication your child must take during the school day be sent to the school office in its original packaging, labeled with instructions. Children should not be told to take oral medication at school by themselves. WHEN IN DOUBT ABOUT SOMETHING, CHECK YOUR PARENT HANDBOOK OR CALL THE OFFICE.
