....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

We have an exciting guest coming to our school this
Thursday at 11:00. Mr. Scott Flansburg, the human
calculator,
will be presenting his amazing skills in the church
to our 2nd – 6th graders. Mr. Flansburg has been on the Oprah
and the Tonight shows. So it should be great fun. Scott Grimes
kindly arranged this for our students. If you would like to join
us for this 40-minute show, please do so. It should be a lot of fun.

Tami Woods, fundraiser extraordinaire, has set up a fundraiser
to assist the school in closing the funding gap this year. She has
some colorful, useful totes for sale. The flyer was sent home via
e-mail today and the actual flyer was sent home last Friday.
If you did not get it, you might want to dig down in your child’s backpack a bit.
Tami will be on campus this Wednesday at 2:00 with samples of the tote bags for
your viewing pleasure.

Don’t forget to visit the library or your local bookstore this week to stock up on plenty
of reading material for next week’s Winter Break! If you are skiing, the snow should be
great and reading a book by the fireside would seem especially appealing. Remember
to log those minutes; it should be an especially high numbers week!

If you are in town and wish to attend Ash Wednesday services next week, the services
will be at 12:00 and 6:00.
After the 6:00 service there will be a soup supper for those
who would like to stay and share some “Stone Soup.”

Nancy Roberts
Headmistress

CCDS is having a Schoolwide Fundraiser!
We are doing a school wide fundraiser “Mixedbag Designs” to help out
CCDS’s financial shortfall. An order form went home to your family on Friday.
These bags are great. You can use them as gifts, for yourself or sell
to your neighbors. The spring line has very colorful and fun patterns.
If you are interested in ordering, please complete the order form that
went home on Friday. Selling is not mandatory, strictly voluntary.
We will make 50% of the cost. Costs are on the order forms.
Make checks payable to Tami Woods. For now let’s make the order due
date March 1st.
They will take two weeks once I place the order.
Our school ID is 30086. Any questions, please feel free to contact me or
you can talk to Jackie Scotchmer or Melissa Miller. When finished with
your order and friends & family orders, please turn in to Tami, Jackie or Melissa.
Thanks,

HELPING HAITI
HAITI Amie Amour, Haiti, Mon Amour, we’re not gonna
leave you stranded, goes a song.
Dear CCDS parents,
We collected over 350 pairs of shoes for Haiti!!!

Many people even sent in brand new shoes!
The response was fantastic and I am glad we could help.
If you'd like to claim a tax receipt for your donation
there are two ways to do it. Log on to
http://www.soles4souls.org/get_involved/tax_receipt.html
or call 1-866-521-SHOE and tell them you donated shoes.
This organization gives one pair of shoes away every nine seconds.
Thank You for your support,
Sincerely,  Sophia Pekarovic

AN ALUMNA - A VERY BUSY BEE

Katy Titus won the Coronado Middle School Spelling Bee last week
and will now compete in the San Diego County Spelling B
representing Coronado Middle School.

IT'S CAR PARKING SENSE

Long-term parking near CCDS is extremely limited, and short-term
parking virtually nonexistent. Extreme caution should be taken
while entering and leaving the parking facilities owned by the Church
on “C” Avenue. Small children should be escorted across the street
by their parents. Please observe the no stopping zone between
the signs in front of the school, as well as the common sense rules
of no double parking or U-turns in mid-block. Parents should remain
in their cars if they are in the loading zone and pull forward
as cars move forward.

One of the many great things about our school is the opportunity each
class has to contribute to our world through a service learning project.

Third grade is collecting General Mills Box Tops for Education to earn money
in support of the "Earth's Birthday Project" to help protect rain forest acreage
in the El Pangan rainforest in the Colombian Chocó
- the wettest forest
in the world, site of tremendous biological diversity, and an environmental
hotspot that will disappear without help.

The "box tops" are small pink and yellow squares with the words
"Box Tops for Education" printed on them. They may be found on the
packaging of many items, such as cereals snacks, Kleenex, and even some
school and office supplies. Send them in to school through the end of April.

Thank you for helping the third graders make a difference in our world.
