....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

Dear CCDS Families,

During the Advent season, we are preparing the
birth of Christ. The commercial aspect of the season
often competes with our spiritual preparations. At CCDS
we attempt this seasonal balancing act of spiritual
reflection and preparation with the many fun events
involving celebrations with friends and family. If we carry
the spiritual message of Christmas in our hearts, it will be
easier to stay grounded during this time of excitement filled
anticipation.

To assist you with this balancing act at home, here is a list of up–coming events with
a brief explanation of each one. Details will follow weekly. Please note that because
we enjoy the Christmas Luncheon organized by the 5th grade parents, there are no
classroom Christmas parties.

This week:
Families may choose to take an angel gift tag off the angel tree in Hinde Hall,

and anonymously give a gift that is wrapped and tagged with the angel tag to
brighten Christmas morning for a young child. Gifts go under the angel tree in
Hinde Hall, and will be delivered to children less fortunate than our students.
You may choose this way to help your child understand the gift of giving and
knowing they have helped someone for no other reason than they should share
the true meaning of Christmas by helping and loving others.

Dec. 2nd-
• CCDSPA Room rep meeting.
8:00 in Hinde Hall
• Lighting of the Del – CCDS choir sings and should arrive at –the Del
in dress uniform at 3:45. Parking can be an issue, so allow time for that fact.

Dec. 4th – Friday
• JKd grade coffee with Mrs. Roberts at 8:05 grade coffee in Hinde Hall

Next Week:
• Progress reports coming home
• 1st grade coffee in Hinde Hall at 8:05

Last week before vacation:
• Due by the 14th Class Gift exchange presents due
– limit of $5.00.
Classroom gift exchanges will be held this week. So all gifts should be in your
classroom by the 14th. Gifts should be marked for a boy or a girl.

• Dec. 15th Christmas program at 6:00pm All students will be required to wear
uniform slacks and white uniform shirts with winter scarves. Colored tee shirts will
be provided to wear over students’ white shirts.

• Dec. 16th Sweaters go home for washing and mending for closing chapel.

• Dec. 17th Christmas Luncheon at 11:30, followed by Chapel story and carols.
Dismissal at 1:00

• Dec. 18th Closing Christmas Chapel starts at 8:15 (school starts at 7:55
as usual). Dismissal follows chapel at about 9:00. You won’t want to miss this
service! It is a beautiful tradition at CCDS
• Even though the next few weeks are very busy with special activities, the
important normal classroom lessons continue.
Be sure to check those homework
books and classroom calendars nightly to keep your student on track and not
playing catch-up the night before a test. That makes everyone grumpy and not
nice, and we all know who is watching.

WELCOME TO MRS. SHERRY SHROPSHIRE

Mrs. Shropshire is joining our CCDS faculty as our new technology teacher.
She earned her degree in education in Florida and has taught in both public and
private schools. We are so grateful that Mrs. Shropshire could join our faculty in the
middle of the year and look forward to all that she will add to our CCDS faculty and
technology program.

THANK YOU DR. YASSINI and STAFF

Dr. Patrick Yassini and Denise, Primary Care of Coronado nurse,
administered H1N1 Flu vaccinations and boosters to many
CCDS students and staff members on two occasions in November.
Christ Church Day School appreciates the service Dr. Yassini
and his office provided to our school. Thank you.

MRS. SHERLOCK IS NOW IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Mrs. Sarah Sherlock left us before Thanksgiving vacation.
The teachers, students and I would like to thank her
for sharing her talents with us for the last year and a half
and being our technology teacher. Among many other
things, she helped the 6th graders produce last year’s annual,
which all CCDS families were able to enjoy. Mrs. Sherlock’s
husband has completed his military service and is pursuing
a graduate degree at the University of South Dakota.
They will be welcoming a new baby into their family in the
New Year. There are many wonderful new things in the
Sherlock family’s future. We will miss Mrs. Sherlock and all
that she has added to the CCDS community.
Thank your Mrs. Sherlock for being such a great teacher
and we wish you the very best!!!!

Mrs. Roberts, the Staff and students of CCDS

H1N1 LAIV "live flu mist boosters” and/or first time H1N1 LAIV
"live flu mist vaccinations” will be given here at school
Monday, November 30th at 9:00 am by Dr. Yassini’s office.

IS IT FLU OR A COLD?

Seasonal colds and the flu are definitely here.
If a child or adult has a fever, he/she should not return
to school or work until fever free for 24 hours without
having taken fever reducing medication.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM COSTUMES
Kindergarten-5th grade will wear white school shirts and will be provided
a colored tee shirt to go over it. They should wear dark blue uniform pants,
dress shoes and dark socks. They will need to wear a bright colored (any color)
winter scarf
- like they were going caroling.

Junior Kindergarten will wear their red uniform shirts instead of a white shirt,
school uniform pants, dress shoes and dark socks, and a winter scarf.

Mrs. Moody says 6th grade knows what they are to wear.

 TOO MUCH TO BRING HOME?

USED SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES TEXTBOOKS
for 5th and 6th grades are available for sale
