....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

FROM MRS. ROBERTS

During this week of graduations, congratulations are due
to Mrs. Sarah Sherlock. She graduated this weekend
after earning her Master’s Degree in Education.

Thank you parents, students, teachers and staff for making
this terrific year at CCDS
. It was enjoyable to gather at last
week’s Wine Party hosted by Kathy Justice and Jim Brown.
Sharing an evening together at the end of the year while
kicking off an activity for next year was poignant because
11 of our families will be “graduating” from CCDS, but at the
same time it was a lot of fun. Thank you Kathy and Jim for making the event possible.

Seven years go by so quickly. These great 6th grade students will be sorely missed,
but we won’t go there yet, because we have this last week to enjoy them! During the
week, the 6th graders will hand out the annual, which they have spent the last
month producing under the able directions and enthusiasm of Mrs. Funk, our
CCDS composition teacher, and Mrs. Sherlock, our technology teacher.
It is better than ever, so be sure to look for it!

There are many activities filled with fun and nostalgic moments packed into the
next 4 days. The basic information you will need to survive is listed below.

For our 1st year parents, Closing Chapel is a family time. Each child has a parent
present to honor our 6th grade graduates, but also to take advantage of a Kodak
moment as your child receives his or her report card from Father Edward, their
teacher, and me. The students, under the direction of Mrs. Moody, will present a
musical offering during the service too. So you won’t want to miss this one.
When the service is over, parents will gather around the flagpole with their children
one last time for school dismissal at about 9:15-9:30.

Wednesday:
9:30 - Presidential Physical Fitness Award ceremony 9:30 on the lawn for 4rd – 6th
K- 3rd graders join us and we all enjoy Mrs. Duryea’s annual “dance.”
Sweaters go home today for mending and washing for Closing Chapel.

Thursday:
Free Dress – children should wear their team color
8:00 - Closing chapel Rehearsal,11:30 - Play Day – parents arrive
2:00 - Dismissal

Friday :
Closing Chapel, dress uniform –including dress shoes.
7:45 - 6th graders put on their gowns in Hinde Hall
8:00 - Students arrive and parents arrive
8:15 - Procession for Closing Chapel begins
9:30 - “Reception for Graduates” – 5th graders serve, 6th graders and parents
go through the line first. Children and families may leave at anytime after dismissal
at the flagpole

GOD BLESS YOU ALL WITH A WONDERFUL SAFE SUMMER.
AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR
CCDS AND YOUR CHILDREN.

SECOND GRADE
Pennies for P.A.W.S.
The 2nd Grade Class would like to thank the entire school for their support of our
“Pennies for P.A.W.S.” drive during the month of May. Because of your contributions
we were able to give $332.00 to this organization. These funds will go toward
medical fees for homeless animals looking to be adopted through P.A.W.S. We
were even able to visit the Union Bank of Coronado to see exactly how these coins
and currency were recounted and then deposited to the P.A.W.S. account. It has
been a wonderful year-long adventure for us to give service to this very worthy
group. Thank you so much for your help with this project.

......... CELL PHONE POLICY

A new problem has come to my attention, which is an out growth of our changing
times.  The 2009-2010 Parent/Student Handbook will address this problem, but in
the meantime I need your support.  Many children are bringing cell phones to
school.  These may be necessary if children are walking home, but they are not to
be used at school and the school cannot accept any responsibility for damage or
loss of these phones.  As always, any calls that a child needs to make during the
school day should be placed through the office phone with their teacher’s
permission.  This has always been the rule, but we are finding that some students
are texting during school and going into the restrooms to text or make phone calls.
Along that line of thought, arranging play dates etc. should be done before a child
comes to school not when school is dismissing.  (The loading zone has enough
problems without waiting for students to call their parents to arrange a play dates
at the last minute.   So bottom line, while on the school grounds, cell phones
should be in the students’ backpacks at all times.  I will be talking to the children
about this, and I would appreciate your support from home.

As always - thank you for your support. Mrs. Roberts
