....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

FROM MRS. ROBERTS

Mrs. Power and I are having a great time with the 6th graders.
Among all the other things I mentioned last week, we have
seen Mary Poppins on Broadway, visited Natural History
Museum in NYC, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and
stood in the room where the Declaration of Independence
was signed and the Constitution was written in Philadelphia.
Last night we took a night lights tour of the monuments in
Washington DC, which included the World War II Memorial,
the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean
War Memorial, the FDR memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.
We arrived at our hotel at about 9:30, and yes, we were tired, but we were off again
at 8:30 this morning with plans to fit as much in as possible before our 6:00 flight
tomorrow night. We may be tired, but we will have taken advantage of all this trip
has to offer!

If you are looking for more excitement, please save the dates
for the following events – details will follow in future articles.
May 8th – Spring Family Event 5:30 –7:00
June 3rd – Appreciation Tea
June 5th – CCDSPA Wine Party
June 11th – Play Day
June 12 – Graduation/Closing Chapel

......... CLASSROOM NEWS

SECOND GRADE
Pennies for P.A.W.S.
The 2nd Grade Class will be collecting pennies (and any other form of currency) for their final service learning project this year. If you have a bunch of pennies and change that you’d like to donate to our very worthy cause, we would be more than happy to accept it.  During the entire month of May we will have collection cans in each classroom.  We will also have a collection bin after church services each Sunday in the month of May. These funds will go toward medical fees for homeless animals looking to be adopted through PAWS. In the past it has paid for vaccinations, spaying and neutering, hip replacements, and equipment for these animals. Thank you so much for your help with this project.

......... CELL PHONE POLICY

A new problem has come to my attention, which is an out growth of our changing
times.  The 2009-2010 Parent/Student Handbook will address this problem, but in
the meantime I need your support.  Many children are bringing cell phones to
school.  These may be necessary if children are walking home, but they are not to
be used at school and the school cannot accept any responsibility for damage or
loss of these phones.  As always, any calls that a child needs to make during the
school day should be placed through the office phone with their teacher’s
permission.  This has always been the rule, but we are finding that some students
are texting during school and going into the restrooms to text or make phone calls.
Along that line of thought, arranging play dates etc. should be done before a child
comes to school not when school is dismissing.  (The loading zone has enough
problems without waiting for students to call their parents to arrange a play dates
at the last minute.   So bottom line, while on the school grounds, cell phones
should be in the students’ backpacks at all times.  I will be talking to the children
about this, and I would appreciate your support from home.

As always - thank you for your support. Mrs. Roberts
