FROM MRS. ROBERTS
The 4th graders, Mrs. Funk and many 4th grade parents
returned from their 3-day trip to Catalina last Friday evening.
I heard it was a wonderful trip full of fun and learning.
Mrs. Funk put a tremendous amount of effort into arranging
the trip and the parents organized games and pitched in to
help with meals, hikes, snorkeling, kayaking and everything
else. To each of these people who made this a great trip for
the students, thank you!
The 6th grade, Mrs. Power, 12 parents, 1 grandparent and I
are on our way to the East Coast. We will visit Boston where we start by walking the
freedom trail. Then we continue on to Plymouth Plantation, Sturbridge Village,
New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. It is an action-packed, historical trip
ending with tours of Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian
Museums and the National Cathedral. Thank you to all of you who supported our
various fund-raisers making this trip possible for the CCDS students. As we travel,
please keep us in your prayers for a safe, happy and exciting learning adventure.
I will be back in time for the CCDSPA room rep meeting on May 6th in Hinde Hall.
Remember, all parents are invited to attend. See you then, and in the meantime
encourage and support your children in their efforts to bring this year to a strong
academic end, all the while being kind and loving to their fellow students.

 SECOND GRADE
Pennies for P.A.W.S.
The 2nd Grade Class will be collecting pennies (and any other form of currency) for their final service learning project this year. If you have a bunch of pennies and change that you’d like to donate to our very worthy cause, we would be more than happy to accept it. During the entire month of May we will have collection cans in each classroom. We will also have a collection bin after church services each Sunday in the month of May. These funds will go toward medical fees for homeless animals looking to be adopted through PAWS. In the past it has paid for vaccinations, spaying and neutering, hip replacements, and equipment for these animals. Thank you so much for your help with this project

......... CELL PHONE POLICY |
 |
|
 |
|
|
A new problem has come to my attention, which is an out growth of our changing
times. The 2009-2010 Parent/Student Handbook will address this problem, but in
the meantime I need your support. Many children are bringing cell phones to
school. These may be necessary if children are walking home, but they are not to
be used at school and the school cannot accept any responsibility for damage or
loss of these phones. As always, any calls that a child needs to make during the
school day should be placed through the office phone with their teacher’s
permission. This has always been the rule, but we are finding that some students
are texting during school and going into the restrooms to text or make phone calls.
Along that line of thought, arranging play dates etc. should be done before a child
comes to school not when school is dismissing. (The loading zone has enough
problems without waiting for students to call their parents to arrange a play dates
at the last minute. So bottom line, while on the school grounds, cell phones
should be in the students’ backpacks at all times. I will be talking to the children
about this, and I would appreciate your support from home.
As always - thank you for your support. Mrs. Roberts
