....... CCDS INFORMER
Mrs. Roberts - Headmistress

FROM MRS. ROBERTS

While it may appear in several places, I would like
to call your attention to an important meeting this
Tuesday night, February 3rd at 7:00 in Hinde Hall
.
At this time Janie Hansen and I will present an
overview the WASC accreditation process.
The meeting will last about 45 minutes and help you
understand the very thorough process we will be
undertaking with this 18-month self-study. The
self-study culminates with a visit from a WASC
visiting team, and their findings will determine our
accreditation for the next six years. As always, we aim for the highest
accreditation. We haven’t missed yet, but in order to conduct a successful
self-study we need your participation. So I encourage as many of you as
possible to attend this meeting.

This is the first official announcement regarding a new grade level being
offered at CCDS. Christ Church Day School is thrilled to announce the
opening of a Junior Kindergarten class in the fall of 2009
. Serving 4 and
5 year olds, the Junior Kindergarten program will be designed to meet the
needs of children who are not yet developmentally ready for our advanced
academic kindergarten. Just as adults do not determine when all children
will begin to walk or talk, we do not decide when all children are ready to
read or write. The CCDS Junior Kindergarten will offer children the gift of
time and prepare students for a successful transition to their kindergarten
year. Please call the school's Director of Admissions, Mrs. Nancy Iverson,
for further information.

Check out the school’s total for the reading program and the places your
children are reading. Send us a digital photo of your child reading at home
and we will do our best to post them on the website over the next few weeks.

Mrs. Duryea will lead a Playday meeting in St. Peter’s Chapel, Thursday, February 12 at 8:00 am.  Anyone interested in helping with Playday is invited to attend. Kindergarten and 2nd grade parents are in charge of overseeing this event.  It’s our big end of the year celebration!

FIRST GRADE
The first grade is collecting used ink cartridges (HP and Cannon) to help raise money for our service learning project.  We will be collecting them until the end of the year.  Just drop them off in the 1st grade classroom.

THIRD GRADE
The Third Grade will be collecting Box Tops for Education from now until the end
of April as part of their service learning project to protect rain forest acreage.
Did you know that the rain forest is home to half the plant and animal species on
earth? Many of those plants and animals have not yet been discovered, and many
are becoming extinct!
Monies collected will go to the Nature Conservancy’s Earth’s Birthday Project.
Thank you, Kung Hee Fat Choy! Ms. Burns

MUSICAL NOTES
Teachers Note:  CD 1 TRK 10  Script p. 74.
The feature composer of the week is Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).
The feature composition is the Invention No. 14. Bach composed inventions
for his students. He created music that would be fun to play but would also
build strength and speed in their fingers.
