FROM MRS. ROBERTS
The Teacher’s Staff Development fund is something
I would like to bring to your attention, but you may
have missed the introductory idea of the fund.
The finance committee of the School Board, which has
the fiduciary responsibility of making sure the school is
financially sound not just this year but in the years to
come, will be meeting this week to decide what
percentage of the money raised at the auction can be
committed to this fund. However, this is a fund that
can be contributed to at anytime. It is a wonderful
parent generated idea to provide professional development funds above and
beyond what the school provides. The fund would be for such things as
special summer workshops in a specialty area of the curriculum. I will elaborate
on this in future messages and at grade level/room rep meetings. The teachers
are extremely honored and grateful for your generosity and acknowledgement
of their professionalism.
The holiday season is upon us. There are several things I would like to
mention as we strive for balance in our lives, especially during this season.
The first concerns absences from school. We will be taking long
Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations. As families consider vacations
from school outside the normal vacation time, we ask that they balance their
individual family’s needs with the needs of the other students and teachers.
It takes time to prepare lessons for children who are away from school.
The teachers spend many hours preparing and don’t mind writing up special
plans for children who are ill or have a very special family celebrations.
They will do their best for other occasions, but I ask that you consider this
balance as you make your decisions. There is no substitute for the lesson
presented by a teacher. Thank you for pondering this balancing act a bit.
Next, there are several family holiday events the school is invited to participate
in at the church and at the Hotel del Coronado. At church there are two events
in the near future. They are the “How to Have a Peaceful Christmas” for
moms, which is tomorrow on November 18th in the library in Hinde Hall
at 6:30 – 8:30. The Advent Potluck Workshop is on November 30th at 5:30
to 8:00. Chili will be provided. Bring a salad, cornbread or dessert to share,
and participate in making crafts with your child in preparation for Advent.
It is a great way to start the season. Finally, the CCDS Choir will sing at
the opening holiday festivities on December 3rd.
If you are traveling this Thanksgiving, I wish you a safe journey. If you are
staying home, I wish you a great thanksgiving with your family in Coronado.
When we return from Thanksgiving vacation, I will be writing about the many
special events that take place in December at CCDS.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
PS - This Friday, I will meet with the 5th grade parents for coffee.
