The sixth grade returned from their East Coast Trip last Tuesday. They walked the Freedom Trail in Boston in cold rainy weather and saw a Red Sox game in misty weather. The misty/ drizzling rain continued through our visits to Plimoth Plantation, Sturbridge Village, New York, Philadelphia, and until the last two days of sunshine in Washington DC. However, the 6th grade students shined during the whole trip. At every hotel and restaurant we visited, people sought me out to compliment the students’ on their manners and behavior. We should all feel very proud of these fine students.
SAT testing for the 3rd through 6th grade children is underway this week. Parents, the best thing you can do to support your child during this week is to make sure the students are well rested and arrive at school having eaten a healthy breakfast.
CAMPAIGN UP-DATE:
• Over $2 million has been pledged for the maintenance and restoration of the church and school and for the school annex.
• In fact, over half the Hand in Hand campaign’s $2.5 million goal is directed toward CCDS.
• As the intensive phase of our Hand in Hand campaign draws to a close this week Campaign Chair Mark DeMichele announced the campaign will be held open to ensure all have the opportunity to participate. He said that all the projects are critical and must be adequately funded.
• Mark also said that work on the roofs, school and church, will begin in June along with the rewiring of Hinde Hall and the church. Both Christ Church and CCDS will see an immediate impact of the campaign by next fall.
• The plan continues to be to build the school annex without going into debt, but It is necessary to reach our goal of $2.5 million and receive campaign proceeds in order to break ground. Receiving all the campaign proceeds will necessarily move construction out three years as anticipated.
• The good news for CCDS is that essentially all monies raised from here on will directly fund the school annex! This is our opportunity to invest in the future of CCDS and our children.
• Some of your fellow parents have been busy this past month making calls. I promise you they are as uncomfortable in this role as you might be to visit with them. If you have yet to participate in our campaign, please take the time this week to consider what level of support you might be able to offer and then respond.
• Future plans are starting to materialize this summer. My office, Mrs. Kassir’s office, and Nancy Iverson’s office will move onto the main campus where aftercare and Spanish are now meeting.
Thank you for your support
