Weekly Newsletter

February 20th, 2012

Welcome back from Winter Break.  I hope your family had a great time with the children doing a lot of reading and logging those reading minutes to turn in this Friday.  Minutes from the last turn in date were being counted, beads awarded and delivered to the classrooms this morning.  We have two weeks left for Friday turn in dates.  Then on Tuesday, March 6th there will be a culminating surprise event with a science theme.  So keep on reading along side of your children to encourage them to develop and enjoy reading for a lifetime.

Today, we welcome Grace Weitzel to CCDS.  She is a lovely addition to our 1st grade class!

Mary Anne Haskell has spearheaded our hot lunch program for the last year and a half, but will no longer be able to continue as of this week.  Her son, Michael is transferring to another school, and we wish this family the very best. Thank you Mary Anne for all the time and effort you gave to making our hot lunch program healthy and appealing to the students and teachers at CCDS.  Mary Anne has graciously offered to help a new volunteer get started this Friday.  She has the program planned for the rest of the year, but we need someone to step up and carry out the plan.  Please contact me if you feel you could do this or would like more information on what this entails.

READING PROGRAM  “It’s Elementary”

Critics Send in Their Book Recommendations

Lilly Grimes read Wayside School is Falling Down, by Louis Sachar.
“This book has funny stories in it and it is a quick read book.  It’s a quick read book because one chapter will tell a funny story, then end at the best part and start a totally different story.  Who ever loves funny stories will love this book.”

Natalie Fenton read Geronimo Stilton #43:  The Mystery in Venice by Geronimo Stilton.
“Geronimo Stilton, the main character which is a mouse, is very clumsy and funny.  It’s also a series with great adventures!”

T.J. Varley read Dragonbreath Attack of the Ninja Frogs by Ursula Vernon.
“I recommend this book because it’s exciting.  There are a lot of Ninja scenes including roundhouse kicks and jumps.  There is also Ninja facts that I never knew about.  Look at page 49, interesting stuff.”

CCDS MISSION STATEMENT

The Educational Mission of
Christ Episcopal Church is
predicated on Anglican
Theologians of The 17th
Century who suggested that
human reason offers a tool to
interpret scriptures and to
wrestle with the most difficult
issues of humanity. It is our
desire to establish a learning
environment that fosters the
development of reason and
critical thinking skills to serve
in the exploration of the deepest
issues of humanity and to better
understand our responsibilities
as individuals for the well-being
of society. It is an environment
founded on the love of God and
the love of our fellow human beings.
