Annual Giving
Each year, CCDS has an annual giving opportunity for supporters of Christ Church Day School. The letter below from Bill Adams, CCDS Board Member and Chair of the Development Committee, best explains the school's need for these funds.

Dear Friends of Christ Church Day School,

This year Christ Church Day School celebrates its 50th year. My family has had a connection with CCDS for the last 25 years. Other friends of ours like Stu Swett have memories that go back for all 50 years. Stu's mother was a parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church and one of the founders of the school. That connection to the church has been evident in all 50 years of the school's life as many parishioners have more than one generation of offspring that learned to read and write and to practice telling the truth (most of the time) at 901 C Street.

Each year former students and their parents come back and retell stories that warm our hearts about a certain closing chapel, or a parent attended class trip to Catalina. Each story highlights a strengthened bond between the parent and child or a new respect for the clarity with which children see our world. These stories reflect the early vision of Mrs. Swett and its evolution to what now guides the teachers and staff at CCDS. Today's CCDS mission is aimed at creating an environment for building a spiritual, ethical and educational core, within a child during the early years of life. By default this also embraces the relationship between children and their parents.

Unfortunately these values do not come cheaply, and yes here comes the punch line. Each year it is a challenge to put a curriculum together, to acquire the teaching aids, and to pay for the best cadre of teachers and staff at this school. CCDS is committed to small classes, manageable tuition, and full financial independence from its sponsor and guardian - Christ Episcopal Church.

Parents of current and former students, along with Christ Episcopal Church groups like the Women of Christ Church and the Thrift Shop have always pitched in when the school needed things. They have built bathrooms, bought computers and books, offered financial aid, funded teacher bonuses, paid airfare for students so entire classes could take the East Coast trip in the 6th grade, and even established student savings accounts. These contributions to our general fund have been the icing on the cake each year. This money pays for the things that just can't get covered every year by the school's budget. That's why this request comes in a simple letter with no follow-on phone call or awkward full frontal request.

For those of you that continue to be touched by this school, we ask for your help. These funds will be spent as wisely and respectfully as those given to Mrs. Swett 50 years ago. This clearly is the kind of legacy we want our children to sustain 50 years from now, when we celebrate our 100th year.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Bill Adams
Development Committee Chair
